Driving Directions:

From the East: Take I-95 South to Exit 38 (Milford Parkway). At the end of the exit ramp, proceed 1.9 miles to the end of the Parkway, and embark upon Route 15 South (Wilbur Cross Parkway). Continue .9 miles and take Exit 53 (bearing in mind that Route 15/Wilbur Cross Parkway becomes the Merritt Parkway when traveling west at the point of crossing the bridge over the Housatonic River between Milford and Stratford). At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Route 110/Main Street and follow 1.1 miles, at which point Main Street becomes River Road (at the intersection of Long Hill Avenue and Route 110). Follow River Road 1.6 miles; the site is located on the right where a gate and gravel-covered parking lot exist, and which is opposite an unmarked local road named Moulthrop Lane

From the West: Take I-95 North to Exit 27A. At the end of the exit ramp, proceed 3.5 miles on Route 8/25, and then embark upon Route 8 exclusively. Continue 1.7 miles, and then embark upon Route 15/Merritt Parkway and follow 2.1 miles. Take Exit 53, and at the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Route 110/Main Street and proceed 1.4 miles, at which point Main Street becomes River Road (at the intersection of Long Hill Avenue and Route 110). Follow River Road 1.6 miles; the site is located on the right where a gate and gravel-covered parking lot exist, and which is opposite an unmarked local road named Moulthrop Lane.

From Stratford: “The Dock” Shopping Center, Barnum Avenue, Stratford:

Barnum Avenue travel west 0.2 miles

Follow signs to Route 110

RIGHT on Route 110 (East Main Street to River Road) travel 6.2 miles

Site Description:

A canoe landing at a pocket park that has a dozen parking spaces. The park also contains benches and a former garage that has been was refurbished as a pavilion.

Environment: Rocky Shore, Tidal River

Additional Info:

South Bank Open Space offers a park setting adjacent to the Housatonic River where visitors can observe wildlife and engage in other passive recreation. There is a small picnic area on-site, in addition to a pavilion. The site is closed from dusk through dawn. Swimming is prohibited in the Housatonic River at this site, per an order issued by the Shelton Department of Parks & Recreation.

Access from parking area on Rt 110. West side of river. Walk down steep path through field to a sandy ramp by eroded bank. Picnic area.
