On The Water: The actual length of the river itself is about a mile. It emerges into the harbor between Contentment Island on the eastern side and Roton Point on the western side. The river is the dividing line between Norwalk and Darien.

If the day is calm - head south towards the Sound. Windy days can be a challenge when trying to cross the Sound. Watch out for boaters - river and sound traffic can be heavy.

Once you come to the mouth of the river, bear to the right and follow the rocky shoreline of Contentment Island. Fish Island will be straight ahead of you. Stay to leeward side of the island to avoid having the waves push you and your boat into the rocks.

From here you can head into and explore Scott's Cove. There are a lot of inlets and channels to explore here. From here you can make your way back to the Put-In.

What You’ll See: Butlers Island, Fish Islands, Contentment Island, Great Island, Scott's Cove, Roton Point, and Hay Island

Cautions: Boats, winds, and wave.
