Take Out:
At the launch - to your left are many protected inlets full of wildlife and sandy beaches. Off to the south you'll see Napatree Point, Rhode Island and Fishers Island, New York. As you paddle towards the south and Little Narragansett you'll see a thin strip of land - Sandy Point. Just south of this is where the Connecticut and Rhode Island state line runs. You'll see the Watch Hill Lighthouse and you can continue on to Napatree Point to explore the ruins of an old coastal artillery battery. As you round Napatree Point you'll feel the full force of winds and waves from the sound. For calmer waters head west into Little Narragansett Bay or northeast up to the Pawcatuck River a great place to explore. You can paddle the entire 4 miles up to Westerly, Rhode Island. You can leave your launch point and paddle west to Stonington Harbor. You'll be able to see the Stonington Harbor Lighthouse which was built in 1868. There is now a museum there - well worth the visit. After a full day of paddling - there are a lot of hiking trails in Barn Island as well as a visit to the town of Stonington.
