Lovers Leap

 

Directions: At Lovers Leap State Park

Take Route 7 to Lanesville Road in New Milford. Turn East on Lanesville and follow it over the river to Lower Grove Street. Turn left, then take the first right on Hine Hill Road. Take a right on Town Road and another right on Lovers Leap Road. Follow it until it dead-ends. There are no signs when you reach the put-in

On The Water:

Heading south you can go to the Middle put in or further to the dam or up the Shepaug River. Immediately to the north you encounter the gorge, where the lake narrows to about 30 yards with steep cliffs on either side. On the other side is a couple miles of river, ending at the dam at New Milford. Just before the dam is a marina where there used to be a small boat-building shop. A short side trip is the Still River, on the left under a railroad trestle immediately after going through the gorge.

Cautions: There is a dam at either end of this lake.
