On The Water: This is a small whitewater river. You’ll encounter a
lot of small broken dams – which can create a hazard during high water and
require scouting out.. At lower water levels it’s Class II – III. Put in below the mill dam in Mill River on Hayes Hill
Road just off of
Massachusetts Route 57. A ½ mile downstream is a washed out dam with
Class III rapids at low flow
and Class IV at high water flow. Scout out this section on the left side.
The best paddle is over the left center over an exposed ledge. There is a water fall ¼ mile after the second bridge (Umpachene
Falls). Watch out for the fence going across the r5iver at ½ mile
after the falls - not a
problem during a low to medium flow. Stay to the left – watch out for
strainers as you paddle along. Take out at a small sandy beach on the right hand side
just after Konkapot Road bridge off
