The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing.

On The Water:

You put in at Hendee Road off of US 6 in Andover near a restaurant  2 miles east of Bolton Notch. There is a short Class I rapid – 1 mile in below a broken dam with slight drops at each bridge.

The dam at Hop River Road – 7 miles in is partially washed out and must be portaged on the left side – this is also a possible take out.

After the dam pass under another bridge, the US 6, then a power line.

The next bridge – a railroad bridge – 10.25 miles in –has a sharp Class II drop which is passable only on the extreme left. There may be a log or brush pile across it. I can be portaged with difficulty on the right.

The next bridge is Flanders bridge, with a possible take out at 10.5 miles into the paddle. Below this bridge the river passes beneath US 6 bypass highway ramps and joins the Willimantic River.
