On The Water: You put in at Hendee Road off of US 6 in Andover
near a restaurant 2 miles
east of Bolton Notch. There is a short Class I rapid – 1 mile in below a
broken dam with slight drops at each bridge. The dam at Hop River Road – 7 miles in is partially
washed out and must be portaged on the left side – this is also a
possible take out. After the dam pass under another bridge, the US 6,
then a power line. The next bridge – a railroad bridge – 10.25 miles in
–has a sharp Class II drop which is passable only on the extreme left.
There may be a log or brush pile across it. I can be portaged with
difficulty on the right. The next bridge is Flanders bridge, with a possible
take out at 10.5 miles into the paddle. Below this bridge the river
passes beneath US 6 bypass highway ramps and joins the
Willimantic River. Site History:
