Site History:

A mill for grinding corn was built on a Quinnipiac ford near East Rock in 1642. By 1780 there were eight mills. In time the river provided power for Eli Whitney's gun factory, now the Eli Whitney Museum, and became a town water supply.

The Mill River played a great part in the history of the Cedar Hill area of New Haven. It is still a local fishing and hiking area. There is a small boat launch for paddling on the river to view the amazing landscape.
