Basic Information:

The Yantic River forms at the confluence of the Deep River, Sherman Brook, and Exeter Brook about 4 miles east of Colchester, Connecticut.

It runs for about 13 miles and flows and meets the united waters of the Quinnebaug and Shetucket at Norwich, where the waters of the three rivers fall with great rapidity, forming the Thames River.

The Yantic River is a popular whitewater paddling destination with a mix of quick water and Class I-III whitewater.

Site History:

It is said that a party of Mohegan Indians plunged themselves down the Yantic falls when pursued by their foes, the Narragansetts.
