Site Location:    East Twin Lake, Salisbury, Connecticut

Basic Information:

Known respectively as Washining Lake (East Twin Lake) and Washinee Lake (West Twin Lake), the Twin Lakes are calcareous lakes, home to several rare aquatic plants, and surrounded by northern and central hardwoods. Located in Salisbury, Connecticut, the lakes flow north into Massachusetts and form the headwaters of Schenob Brook. Washining and Washinee lakes have been used for recreational fishing, boating, and swimming since the late 1800's.

Driving Directions:

Route 44, north on Twin Lakes Road, take the gravel road on the left, 2.7 miles north of Route 44 and 0.4 miles north of the marina. Launch is located on East Twin Lake.

Washining Lake aka East Twin Lake

Important Note:

   Zebra Mussels

Due to the presence of zebra mussels (an invasive species) any boat used in these lakes must NOT be used again for 5 days afterwards & should be cleaned with hot water.

Site History:

The area was famous for its production of cannons and cannonballs during the Revolution and War of 1812.
