Driving Directions:

From Route 9 : Take Exit 7 and head east on Route 82 for the next 4.9 miles and then turn left heading north onto Route 151. Drive 1.2 miles and then turn right onto the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike. Then drive 2.6 miles and turn right onto Launching Area Road at the access sign and drive .2 miles to the access.

From Route 2:  Take Exit 18 and head west on Route 16 for 4.3 miles and then turn left onto Route 149. Head south for 1.7 miles and then straight onto Eli Chapman Road as Route 149 continues to the right. Drive .4 miles and then turn left onto Mott Lane. Drive .8 miles and at the T intersection take the right onto East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike. Drive .6 miles crossing the reservoir causeway and then turn left onto Launching Area Road at the access sign and drive .2 miles to the access.

From Route 2: Take Exit 16 and go south on Route 149 for 3.3 miles to the junction with Route 16. Head west on Route 16 for 4.3 miles and then turn left onto Route 149. Head south for 1.7 miles and then straight onto Eli Chapman Road as Route 149 continues to the right. Drive .4 miles and then turn left onto Mott Lane. Drive .8 miles and at the T intersection take the right onto East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike. Drive .6 miles crossing the reservoir causeway and then turn left onto Launching Area Road at the access sign and drive .2 miles to the access.

On The Water: There is great paddling on the reservoir. You can spend your time exploring the shoreline and coves watching the wildlife.

The section of the reservoir northwest of the East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike causeway is busy with boaters - the section south of the causeway is a much more enjoyable paddle.

Moodus comes from the Pequot Indian word machimoodus, meaning “land of noises.” The area’s loud booms have mystified residents for hundreds or even thousands of years.
