Route 9 follow signs for Harbor Park area I parked in parking lot just before Harbor Park restaurant it was a small lot but was right next to the ramp for the university boat ramp (its their boat house for their crew boats)

Paddling The Mattabesset River

Paddling The Mattabesset In Middletown:

Park at Harbor Park and put-in in front of Wesleyan boat ramp. Paddle upstream on the Connecticut River. Took just short of 1/2 hr to get to the Mattabasset. The tides have some play in this river. It is a very peaceful paddle and this river borders a wildlife management area. This is a nice winding river and about 3 hrs.

Another possible put in is at the Sawmill Pub in Cromwell. It can be quite mucky if you don't catch the tides right. The paddle up to the Pub is about 5 miles.The whole paddle takes about 51/2 hrs.  A little bit up into the river you will see a branch off to the left that is another the Coginchaug River.
