Putnam Mills

 

Cotton manufacturing in Putnam dates back to 1807 when the Pomfret Manufacturing Company opened on April 1st, 1807, the first cotton factory in eastern Connecticut was set in motion In 1823 a new stone building was erected, to be used for the manufacture of woolen goods. The new stone mill was now used for cotton manufacturing and the old mill for woolen goods.

 

Monohansett Manufacturing Company for the manufacture of sheetings was established in 1872.

 

The Morse Mill  and Powhatan Mill were erected in 1872.

 

Putnam Silk Mills  - The manufacture of silk goods was introduced on January 1st, 1875
